Cardiac Rehabilitation at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill S. Jackson Street offers cardiac related programs specifically tailored to meet the needs of patients through education, exercise and support.

Our staff is dedicated to the improvement of heart health and wellness in order to reduce the risk of chronic disease in our community. Personnel are highly trained and experienced Nurses and Exercise physiologists to help ensure a safe and beneficial program. A Registered Dietician and Clinical Diabetes Educator are also available for consultation. The program is coordinated with your doctors and complements your medical care

Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation

This program begins soon after discharge from the hospital. You will exercise while wearing a heart monitor. An educational program is also provided which includes information on controlling risk factors such as:

* Smoking
* High Cholesterol
* Hypertension
* Diabetes
* Physical Inactivity
* Being Overweight

As you progress, you will experience improved exercise tolerance, strength, endurance and flexibility. The lenghth of the program is designed to meet individual health needs, however the lessons you learn will give you the heart to live a healthier life.

Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation may be of benefit to you if you have had any of the following:
* Heart Attack
* Stable Angina (chest pain)
* Congestive Heart Failure
* Valve Replacement
* Bypass Surgery
* PTCA/Stent
* Heart Transplant

The cost of the program is covered by most health insurance plans. Please check with your insurance company or call us with any questions about your coverage.

Maintenance Care

This program provides individuals the opportunity to better manage their chronic diseases, promoting healthier lifestyles. Exercise is completed under medical supervision. Fees for the maintenance are on a monthly basis.

Imagine a prescription for a medication that could have a profound effect on lowering blood pressure, blood sugar and weight; improve lipid panels, sleep, bone and heart health; and decrease the risk of cancer! This medication does exist. However it entails devoting 30 - 6-0 minutes a day to receive the most beneficial dose. The research is overwhelming in determining that exercise has a positive impact when managing many chronic diseases and has a tremendous health benefit when added to a person's every day routine. The bottom line suggests that moderate exercise/activity can have a positive impact on the health of our patients. Cardiac rehabilitation can help facilitate these lifestyle changes and assist you with your recovery.
