Description
The Nursing Assistant performs patient care duties as directed by nursing staff and within scope of training. Under close supervision, the Nursing Assistant performs identified tasks and assists other nursing staff in the performance of their duties. The Nursing Assistant demonstrates the knowledge and skill of clinical interventions and communication strategies to provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served. The Nursing Assistant may care for infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients depending on unit assignment.
Qualifications
An employee assigned to this classification must possess the mental and physical capabilities to perform the responsibilities and duties of the nature listed above. In addition, the employee must possess the following qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of a SMCE approved Nursing Assistant training.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient relations skills.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
